Annotated Oakland: an exercise in putting into words what the present day historic Oakland cemetery looks and feels like. An experiment in traversing, and therefore perhaps reimagining tumultuous history through deep listening. It came to visitors' ears straight off the surfaces of Oakland’s architecture, using bronze and stone surfaces as conductors and inhibitors of sound. The sounds themselves were comprised of recordings Foley created of conversations between people the artist invited to, or met walking in, Oakland Cemetery. At the tours these visitors were placed in the role of either impromptu ‘tour guide’ or blindfolded tourist, and their dialogue was recorded.

Richards Mausoleum, Oakland Cemetery Atlanta, May 2, 2015. Medium: recorded sound, surface transducers to transmit sound through resonant surfaces.
